Lions are known as "King of the Jungle" for a reason. They are the biggest and most dominant of all the animals in their territory. Lions travel in groups called prides. There is usually only one male. Female lions are called lionesses. When a male lion is born, It's mother takes care of it until it is old enough to start a new pride of his own.

No, some actually do live in India. Not many, but a few. Where do you think Buddha got the lions for his chariot?

King of the Jungle sounds more poetic than, "king of the grasslands for a while until they move with the migrating herds to find water during the rainy season."

Sounds like something Rudyard Kipling would say. Maybe lions do live in jungles in India, who knows. You didn't even know they lived there--obviously, they're well-hidden.

Although jungles around the world are rapidly disappearing, I'm still willing to bet that there are more lions out there in the bush than there are in zoos and circuses! Why is the lion king? Well, would you want to go one on one with him to try and claim the title?

They are the top predators in their native environment- although yes they live im the savannah, not the jungle. But the phrase was probably coined by people who'd never been to Africa and assumed it was all jungle...

Bet you a nickel that if a lion were in the jungle he'd be king.

Of course they can be found in the jungle. Most live in Savannahs, but there can be lions in jungles.
