I'm a little suspicious about the oil filled radiator seeing that it was posted by Ray D. Could nepotism be rearing its ugly head?

None of these are really cheap. 1000 watts is 1000 watts whatever heater it goes through. What you want is the most effective form of heater. Recent tests in Australia have shown that the fan heater, where a fan blows air across a heating element are the most effective in warming a room. The most effective of these are the large ones with large fans that move a lot of air. Most models have high and low settings and the more expensive versions have thermostats.

Electric Oil filled Radiators

Radiant heat heats YOU but not the air ,so it would seem that you are after a radiant only heater. There are oil filled heaters with handles to carry from room to room, but they are for heating the AIR in the room,
Your best bet is for a highly directional type radiant heater of 800 watts to 1500 watts, I have seen them recently called halogen-heaters made in China retail about £15 UK

in the long run they all are identical in BTU out for Wattage in but for best distribution you need a fan and oscillation is even better BUT radiant is the most efficient since it only heats the nearby objects ( flaw is it only heats one side of you at a time )

the radiator devices mentioned above CLAIM to work better because the oil retains the heat - sounds good untill you realize that they have to heat the oil EACH TIME they cycle before you have any heat output

Use someone else's electricity!
A small 2kw fan or convector heater will make life pleasant make sure it has a thermostat.
3kw heaters will be more efficient and warm up the space quicker once warm turn the thermostat down to a comfortable level, this might just be cheaper in the long run.

well we have oil radiators and a fan heater... the fan heater was £60 and altho it warms the room slightly quicker overall it uses more electric.. the radiators cost us only £27 online (and they big ones) and it slightly (only slightly) slower to warm the room but much cheaper to run, mainly cos once the oil is heated u turn the power down and it keeps it warm, were as the fan heater is always blowing heat!

Get one of them calor gas jobbies instead. It like sharing your room with a bomb and you'll slowly choke on the carbon monoxide fumes but you'll die warm and toasty. You can light your fags off 'em as well - cant do that with those oil filled jobs.

If that doesn't appeal, get a leccy one with a fan in it. On hot summer nights you can rip the element out and sleep with it switched on at the bottom of your bed blowing sweet cool air up your duvet, thus relieving the discomfort of sweaty privates.

If you can stand a bit of noise, fan heaters are quick. They all cost the same to run - energy in=heat out

Fixing a cycle with a dynamo connected to a heater and peddling very fast will get you very warm in a short time. Good luck with it.
