Not everyone from India is Hindu. Their is a large population of Sikhs who have settled in western Canada. Sikhism frowns down on the practice of eating any kind of meat because taking a life is considered a sin in their religon. So a lot of Sikis are vegetarians. However, it depends on the indvidual Sikh. It is my understanding that their is no definite law permitting one from eating beef or any other meat. This is one of the reasons why they have a politically precarious position within India. In Hindu if you eat beef it can automatically make you an untouchable.

In the Sikh religion it's a big contreversy, but it's not really what matters, it's not at all what the religion is about.
However, if you go to India and someone is serving beef their will probably be a HUGE protest by Hindu's because they don't eat beef, or kill cows.

According to sikh gurus " people should not create fuss around debating which meat is a sin to eat and which is not."
The whole context of life in sikhism is based constant loving rememberance of God (allah, ram) . Everything else follows automatically.
SO , There are no hard and fast rules written down in sikhism stating that u are a sinner if u eat this and redeamed if u eat this.
It is an individyual choice and it also depends on the society you live in ...in india why hurt the hinds by eating beef . In middle east why eat pork and create fuss.... similarly ..when In japan , you have no option but to eat fish .. but all of these choices are verry unimportant in sikhism.

I know a sikh who does eat. Having said that, they do not eat beef. But managing a restaurant, outside of India, might make them decide otherwise.... Serving it is not the same as 'eating' it, is it ?

technically sikhs aren't hindus so there's no restriction on them. but most of my sikh friends in india follow hindu rituals and don't eat beef.
but being in canada, choices are limited plus for them it's not a matter of religion anyway
