There are azaleas and there are azaleas. If your azalea was bought at a nursery, and is in a nondescript black or green plastic pot, or balled and burlapped, it is meant to go outside in the ground. If, on the other hand, it is in a pretty pink or foil-wrapped pot and is all abloom, it is a houseplant azalea. Follow the care instructions on the tag but do not expect it to live forever.

Azaleas are not easy plants to grow, especially indoors.

Keep it watered but don't over water. I wouldn't fertilize it until spring, and then with a special fertilizer. Give as much light as you possible can.

I believe heat in the home is very detrimental for azaleas.

I never do anything to my azaleas...I have four bushes, and they die out in the winter, but they come right back in the late spring, or early summer. However, I have never tried to keep them inside, I only have the ones that are in the ground and I just let them grow and bloom. Hope this helps!
