And how much had you gained by the end of the first trimester? I have gained nearly 7 pounds and am 14 weeks.

I am terrified of gaining too much (my sister gained 75 pounds during her pregnancy)! Any advice for not gaining too much??

During my first pregancy I gained 26 lbs- my second was 22lbs. First trimester I actually lost a little weight- I don't think 7 lbs is much at all- I think in the first trimester it's safe to gain 5- 10 lbs so you are right on track. I think you probably do need to be careful because this sort of thing tend to run in the family. Just try to eat healthy and make sure you never diet during pregnancy. Try not to stress out to much about it- just remember in the end the most important thing is a healthy baby!

Yeah hun that's a lot of weight to gain. In my first pregnancy I gained 40lbs but around 34 weeks I started retaining water and swelled up like a balloon. Two weeks later, I literally had an extra 20lbs of water weight. I was so swollen I coudln't bend my ankles or my wrists. It was horrible and dangerous! I ended up delivering my daughter at 36 weeks 0 days. I stayed swollen that way for nearly 3 weeks after I gave birth as the water took a bit to go away. Once the water weight was gone I was down 40lbs in 3 weeks after birth. The last 20lbs of actual pregnancy weight took a bit to come off. So total weight gain with the water included was 60lbs. Breastfeeding will help the weight come off. Excersise and exhaustion from the new baby help too. This pregnancy has been so different than the first. I have lost 12 lbs during the first trimester and only gained back 3lbs. I am less now at 5 months pg than I was before I found out I was pregnant. This time Pre Pregnancy weight was 120. Current weight- 111

I gained nothing in the first trimester and 5 pounds in the second trimester. I'm now 38 weeks and in the third trimester and i've gained 49 pounds already.

The doctors say they want you to gain 25-35 pounds during your pregnancy but i think that's way too unrealistic. Most women gain between 45-60 pounds during pregnancy. 70+ pounds isn't that uncommon, either. I wouldn't worry about how much weight you gain. Just eat the right foods so your child grows to be the healthiest child it can be. Because who cares if you gain 100 pounds? So long as your child is healthy, that's all that matters.

ok with my first one i gained forty pounds with my second one i actually didn't gain any weight because i was overweight anyway but the baby weighed 8 pounds 8 ounces. the dr said it would be fine if i didn't gain any weight as long as the baby was growing normallly. The third one i gained ten pounds. Best advice is eat sensibly. You are not eating for two people as some people may make you believe. You only need to add maybe 200 calories to your total intake but if you are overweight anyway you don't even need to do that. With my second one the smell of red meat made me sick so i lived on vegatables and chicken and fish. the only red meat i could eat at all was ham and that was only in the last two months. So just eat healthy and sensibly it doesn't mean you can't have the chips or the chocolate just don't eat a whole bag of chips or a whole chocolate cake. Eat when you are hungry and stop when you are full. when the baby gets bigger you may only be able to eat a few bits and be full because there is less room for your stomach so you may need to eat smaller meals more often. hope this helps.

With my first I gained 75 pounds, with my second I gained 75 pounds on strict bed rest. I had my third daughter a year ago and only gained 13 pounds---I had found out that I was diabetic. The thing is you are not eating for two, only you plus 500 extra calories. Just eat healthy and do normal everyday activity to ensure safety and to and the baby. Just think of everything you are putting into your mouth as "healthy is the best". Avoid all the empty calorie cravings loaded with sugars---I could affect the baby not just you!!!!!!! You can compromise by eating less sugary foods and still enjoy the satisfaction of eating the foods that you crave. By the way after having the baby continue on the diet. I've lost 84 pounds since I've had my baby.

I actually lost 15 lbs my first trimester. I couldn't stand the smell of food.

I started gaining weight around my 3rd trimester. I gained 50 lbs during my pregnancy.

My advice is try to stick with fruits for snacks.. Eat as healthy as possible. (This is very hard though because those cravings are so hard to ignore).

1st one: 50 pounds!
2nd: 17 pounds (she was two months preemie)
3rd: 25 pounds

The best advice is use common sense. Don't eat to excess; you really only need about 300 extra calories a day when you are pregnant. Try to get in some exercise at least every other day. If you were active before, continue the same as long as you can.

Seven pounds at 14 weeks is reasonable.

I didn't gain any weight during my first trimester, but now, I'm gaining. I hope I don't gain more than I need to. During my last appointment, when I was 22 weeks, I gained 9 lbs. I'm now 25 weeks and I'm hesistant to look at that scale! LOL. I'll guess I'll just wait and find out during my next appointment (this coming Thursday).

Good luck and congrats! :)

53 lbs. It's been a year and a half and I've lost about 45 of that
You should try a pregnancy workout video, or ask your doctor what kind of workouts you could do while prego. But if your planing on breastfeeding you can expect to loose whatever you gained if not more. My nipples were too large for my babies but my sister lost about 60 lbs just breastfeeding.
