Since the mother should be on puppy food, just make sure the bowl is in a place where the pups can reach it, they will usualy start trying "real" food at around 5 weeks.

when puppies are cutting teeth about 3 to 4 weeks start putting some puppy chow around them as they will nibble on this. about 4 to 5 weeks mix up some baby cereal and warm water and add a little puppy chow . let it get really soft and offer it 2 to 3 times a day and gradually after a week or so drop the baby dry cereAL. ALWAYS LEAVE THE PUPPY CHOW FOR THEM TO NIBBLE ON DRY. IF YOU DONT WANT mom eating it feed them in another room altho while nursing it wont hurt her to have some added calories. never ever change the brand of puppy chow unless it is done very slowly do to stomach irratation and diaherra. tell who ever takes the puppys what thier diet has been and maybe give them a sample to take along until they get to a store.I have raised poms and brittanys and this works very well. puppys should stay with mom at least 6 to 8 weeks as they learn alot from mom. 4 weeks is to young to leave mom unless an emergency

If you don't already know the answer to this question you should never have had pups in the first place-ask your vet. Pupies should stay with their mother and other littermates until 8 weeks even if the mother has weaned them before then-this is when they learn to be dogs. There are more behavior issues wiith dogs removed from the litter beofre the 7- 8 week range

Around 4 weeks (sometimes earlier, sometimes later) Mom will start to wean the puppies.
At this point, you should mix dry puppy food with water and mix it in a blender until its the consistency of baby cereal... Gradually blend it less and less, then just put a bit of water in with the dry food, before you switch you them to completely dry food. They should be on completely dry by 6 1/2 - 71/2 weeks old.

Newborn puppies are getting the proper food...from their mother.
Follow the mother's cues. She will start weaning them when she thinks it's time. When she starts refusing to feed them any old time they want, it's time to start getting them on puppy food.
I would give them wet food to start.

I would say keep giving it what you are and when it get larger teeth then you shuld give it the proper food because you dont want him/her to choke.

You should start weening your puppies at about four weeks old and start off with mush but I would double check...
