I don't know about our forefathers, but the doctors probably did. Back in those days, people didn't talk about such things. Even pregnancy itself was a "hush-hush" topic. Women were said to be in a "family way" LoL! And yes, I think abortion is more of a modern-day problem since there wasn't much overt extra-marital sex going on in those times. Women used to die in childbirth due to the primitive conditions and lack of sterilization of instruments. If abortions were performed, they were probably botched and more women died during the procedure.

I think abortion is permissible in cases of rape and incest. I agree with that because I once worked at a Juvenile Detention Center, where an 11-year-old girl was pregnant from her father. It was totally disgusting! I'd like the prolifers to argue that one. One can't get too sanctimonious in those situations. However, abortion is not a substitute for birth control. You've heard that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. It's much easier to prevent a pregnancy than to destroy it. It's okay in my book to use birth control, as my neither my religion nor my choice forbids it.

Abortion has been around since the beginning of time. Abortion is used as a birth control sometimes and I don't agree with it. However, the forefathers probably knew about abortion but whether they agree I don't know. If you think abortion is wrong then why do you think it's okay for rape and incest? Or do you thnk it's not baby and you can just choose who gets to be born regarding the way they conceive?

Yes, abortion has always existed. People took poisons or use implements to do this, which sometimes killed the mother as well.

I think it would be completely wonderful if every child concieved were wanted 100%, and there would be no need for abortion. I wish it were not used for birth control.
But until that time, I support a woman's rights over her own body. I also support her being able to elect this right in a clear, well lit, sterile place vs. in a back alley with a coathanger.

One of the most effective ways of doing it was a tea made from the roots of a common crop plant, worked for many many hundreds of years.

Right and wrong boils down to whether or not you consider a fetus to have a soul. Although what fetus could object to bypassing this world and going straight to the next.

Many people seem to object to abortion but have no qualms about the same soul growing up in the worst of conditions, without medical care or proper nutrition. Nor do they object to having them slaughtered in battle at a whim. Could it be that they are just into control of others and fake having moral commitments as an excuse to extend that control?

kitty, read a little history on this. Herbs and "potions" were known of all the way back to pre-history. Meaning, as far as we can look back in written history, there are references to these herbs and potions being used in most ancient civilizations, right up to modern times. There are also references to "procedures" that were performed to rid the body of a fetus. So, yes, "abortion" though not exactly the same as the modern medical procedure, DID exist during the time the Constitution was written, and while many men did not think too much about it (since it was largely a women's issue, as it should be today) they certainly knew of it's existence. My computer is not letting me add links right now, but look up "ancient abortion" in Wikipedia, this will tell you all you need to know.

Our forefathers knew about abortion, but it was rarely used and only then to try to save a woman's life, but infection being what it was back then it often claimed both.

While they would never have conceived of abortion being used as retroactive contraception they would not have legislated for or against it.

The constitution was framed you support individual rights, not restrict them, or grant licenses.

In most cases of rape the victim is given RU-486 to prevent conception. Rape and "mother's health" reasons total to less than 1% of all abortions.

In any case, government should not pass laws supporting or prohibiting abortions. It is a woman's moral choice to make if she is the pregnant woman. The time for personal responsibility is in preventing contraception, that is when the choice should be made.

I do not feel abortion should be used as a form of birth control. There is too much free birth control out there. As for in special cases I do think it should be allowed.

I just have to say this to anyone who thinks abortion is woman's right to choice what happends with her body.... Hell is a very real place. Yes. I said it. I do think that anyone who dies thinking abortion is okay is hell bound. Fell free to email me and I'll be glad to explain.

Did you know that a woman who has an abortion has an increased risk of developing breast cancer, depression, and suicide attempt?

I think alot of women would relook their decision if they where told the full story. I wouldn't take any medicine without checking the side effects first. Even the medicine warnings say "may cause..." If women have any rights it's to know that up to 70% of them will regret their decision and suffer long term emotional effects. Maybe not though. Maybe our world has just gotten so cold that women find my shame in murdering their own child because they are too horny and stupid to buy a condom or take a pill.

Did you know that these baby's actually feel pain when being aborted? Their skin burns when the mother is injected with the saline solutions that eventually kills them before the are vaccumed out like dirt off the floor. In partial term abortion mother labor is induced and the baby is turned into a breach position. When the baby's head comes out his spinal cord is cut at the neck with a knife. Then the skull is crushed and the brains are vaccumed out. Then the rest of the baby's body is delivered and then thrown away. Sick but true.

Also, FYI, Roe in Roe Vs Wade never had an abortion. She actually give her child up for adoption. She is now a prolife activist and wishes she was never part of the law that women now use to murder their babies with.

Just want to make it clear, there is no FREE birth control. Somewhere, someone is footing the bill and guess what, It's everyone with a job that pays taxes. Not saying one way or ther other about abortion, I'm just saying its not "FREE" birth control.

Abortion has been around for a long time, but its rampant use in modern times as a form of birth control has gotten out of hand. I do not agree with it period, but I am all for people taking on a little more personal responsibility and protecting themselves from pregnancy to begin with.
