to eliminate all colonial currency bills. The colonies had many different currencies, and this made the British uncomfortable since their money was backed by silver. This made it illegal to purchase anything with or issue paper bills backed by local banks, which all colonial money was. It also established a naval court that would rule on all customs and smuggling violations, and would rule in favor of the British.
