I hear there doing Star Trek XI. I know this is old news but is this going a prequal or a reboot like what they are doing for Bond. Because I heard that Kirk and Spock are going to be in this and I read in the paper that Tom Cruise wants play Spock. Well I hope that is not true but any way back to the matter at hand is this a prequel or reboot.

And I have another question surley they can't recast Kirk and Spock. Especially having Tom Cruise as Spock. What are your thoughts on this.

Star Trek 11 is currently in development. J.J. Abrams will produce and direct it. Projected release date is 2008.

The story is reportedly set in the early days of James T Kirk, so I suppose that makes it a prequel, depending on which series you're using as a reference. It supposedly will cover Kirk and Spock's first meeting the Starfleet Academy, their first mission together, and so on.

There's reason to believe Cruise would appear in the film, because he is not only a Trek fan but has worked with the people making this one before (on MI3). But it seems that most credible sources cite Cruise as being recruited for a CAMEO role only. Like an instructor at the academy or some such. So no need to panic. (See link 2)

They're still auditioning for a young 'Scotty' and 'Bones', so expect those characters in the movie as well.

Matt Damon is already older than William Shatner was in 1966. I've not heard about Tom but that must be a joke. Anyway, Gene Roddenberry did not want them to do any prequels - they ignored his wishes on Enterprise and it was a big turkey. If they mess this up will truly kill the franchise - the last two films did so badly I am very surprised they're already trying to bring it back. They've been making Trek non-stop since 1986, and there would be no shame in saying it needs a long hiatus - look at the success of Dr Who after a long period away. I'd rather keep watching reruns of good Trek than seeing another mediocre film or series.

Its in development directed by JJ Abrams. Its supposed to be set while Kirk and Spock are still in the academy or around that time. Matt Damon is involved, as he was backed by William Shatner, so he might play a young Kirk.

No real details are known as all thats been revealed is a poster with the classic starfleet badge.

So far they have released a movie poster. The poster is of the star fleet insignia, and rather than being a badge like in later series, it is embroidered. That means that it is probably a prequal.

The guy who is writing it has also said that he thinks it would be fun to do Kirk and Spock at star fleet academy.

I didn't hear anything about Cruise...but I did hear that Matt Damon was going to play Kirk.
I think Damon could pull off being Kirk but Cruise could never be spock.

Tom Cruise does not have the ability to pull off playing a young Spock. Does anyone think he would come across as being EXTREMELY intelligent?

Blasphemy. It's one thing to replace Kirstie Alley with someone you can pay less. She was a side character. But Kirk and Spock? That makes my stomach turn.

But that didn't stop them from making Enterprise. Trash, total trash. Even the title sequence didn't feel like Star Trek.

And personally, I would pay $10 NOT to see Tom Cruise. In anything.

i'm uncertain what the alternative is quite. all of the videos have been extensions of sequence, basicaly a great funds 2 hour episode. i think of TNG has been pushed into the floor, and that i especially doubt there is any ability in a flow featuring the Voyager team. the subject with this actual thought is that Spock and Kirk are okay defined characters, especialy interior the non-canon sector. The warfare right it is followers, (people who've lost comprehensive faith in any 'authentic' Trek being produced with the help of the B&B connection) decide for issues to stay authentic to what they understand. although, megastar Trek is a enterprise and desires to make money; so the franchise is thinking huge seem, for this reason why they're using 2 very recognizable characters. They wish that those people who're in basic terms casual followers would be intrigued on a similar time as playing that those hardcore followers will in basic terms go see the movie besides, in spite of the intense propability of being disapointed. Personaly, i do no longer understand what they ought to do. Voyager style of screwed the way forward for Trek over for me. It a feeling, i think of Trek has replace into too intense tech, making it far greater technological know-how /fictional/ than a functional view of the destiny. in the event that they decide for to make a clean sequence, i might decide for to make certain the brakes placed on all of the exploration and new fangle units and come back to a pair tale pushed plots like that of DS9. no longer inevitably on a base, yet a team of persons dealing with issues technologies won't be able to remedy. i'm uncertain if that would artwork for a movie except the planned to introduce a clean team and improve them via quite a few video clips (which isn't a bad thought). Oh properly, we will in basic terms could desire to attend and see. As for the petition, they're going to do what they decide for to do. The fanbase of Trek isn't sufficient to maintain it a decide for the flow with the help of itself. Its the non-trekkies the studio is after.

Will they be fitting him with stilts? he'd have to jump to do the vulcan death grip on a poodle.

I'd still watch the film because im a fan and well, I wouldnt want to judge the performances before I'd actually seen it. Cruise was good in magnolia he's not bad actor so as long as he doesnt mess up a beloved character of mine i'll be ok with him playing him.

i can kind of see cruise being spock -i know i'll probably be linched for saying it ;) but he has the face for it. i quite think that ethan bloke from lost would be good for the part - he has similar looks, but not as classically 'good looking' as cruise. he has the height too.

matt damn might spoil it for me, nothing to do with his ability as an actor of course. just that after team america every time i see him i just want to go, "Maaaaatt daaaamon".

Man, Tom Cruise.. just because you're a space cadet that doesn't qualify you to play Spock.
