I think it was pretty accurate to the time it was filmed in, but not necessarily to the actual flavor of life in the city. Of course movies are not always realistic. I know for sure that using the landmarks such as Wrigley field really adds to the authentic feel. According to that movie, Chicago was a neat place to be. Not sure if its true.

at the time the movie was make i believe it is possible the impression could of been pretty accurate . that is the impression of getting out of prison, and having to deal with what the movie was protraying.

I dont think any movie gives any accurate discription of living anywhere.
