At 12 months they should be off jarred food and eating everything you're eating.
Of course he eats more when he eats jarred food---its easier to eat and he doesn't have to chew.
Technically he should have been off of jarred food a month ago.

Our three boys were totally off the bottle by a year, eating plenty of the chunky jarred foods & SOFT regular foods (cheerios, spaghetti O's, etc.). They started meats & all when they enough teeth to actually chew the food or if it was soft like fish & chicken cut up REALLY small to avoid them choking. They had ground beef or roast beef, again cut up REALLY small. They decided pretty quickly that jarred food was NOT what they wanted as soon as they started regular foods, so I would have to say that by your son's age they were off the jarred foods totally. I do a lot of canning, so green beans, etc. were always available for them to eat before that age, but when they started being able to eat meat they did NOT want the jarred foods any longer. WOW!!! that seems like ages ago.... They are now 10, 8 & 5
Just be REALLY sure that ALL of the food is cut into SMALL, BITE SIZED PIECES, like the size of a pea or diced carrot. I say if he still is wanting the jarred foods, give them to him until he is eating enough regular food to satisfy him from meal to meal without snacking in between.

Just liquidise an extra portion of whatever you are eating; unless of course you are eating chicken nuggets (never knew they had nuggets) and microwave ready meals. The stuff in the jars is just good 'normal' food, liquidised so small children can eat it.
Although 'jars' are sometimes handy when you are out, but you will find it cheaper and better to cook your own meals and liquidise your son's for him, maybe even make up your own jars; it doesn't take any longer and you will have less trouble accustoming your Son to what you eat.
Good luck, have fun..

Every child is different, so there is not a 'right time' as long as he has a balanced diet. If yours eats regular food already, and even eats better (not always more means better!) when he has his jarred food, which he enjoys, you could keep feeding him jarred food as a dessert, or as a snack, and gradually start to feed him smaller portions while giving him something else instead until he is completely off.

I would say if he's eating all of the jar of food and he can still eat things like chicken nuggets, etc. then he's probably ready to be weaned from the jar. The best thing to do would be to ask your pediatrician for advice though.

All babies are different, mine was off jars at 11 months, and was eating what we ate, was mashed and cut small tho.
try pureeing the food that you eat, and make it slightly more lumpy as time progresses... now would be a good time to start, my friend had major trouble getting her son of the jars, it was more to do with assossiation to meal times... (baby see's jar, dinner time)

I took my twins off of jarred food when they were like 8 months, I made my own food with a blender. becasue i was spending more money on food for them than I was on my husband, and I. they were eating 2 jars each 3+ times a day. now they eat every thing that i cook and by them selfs they wont let me feed them they have to feed their selfs. and are very independant. and how do i know that they have had enough when they feed them selfs. when they look at me and shake their heads when i try to put more on their trays or they throw it at each other.

the way i took my son off of baby food is by giving him the same things that i ate. make sure you season his food like you do your own. he will get used to not eating the jarred food if you feed him more of the regular food. once he realizes that he is only getting what you eat, then you will not be able to feed him enough. if you need more tips, just email me and i will be more than happy to help.

My son went off jarred food as soon as he could eat all regular food and was consuming regular servings. Baby servings of regular food are actually pretty small. If he can remain satisfied off of what table food you give him, then he is ready.
