You're completely right. I think if more people realized how they were performed, they would realize how wrong it was. I've read about it as well. It was plain and simple about how they were performed--it actually terrified me.

Live women are more valuable than potential children. How could people force something as physically and emotionally traumatising as childbirth and pregnancy on a woman? Have you read the chapter about pregnancy and childbirth? Have you watched birthing videos or read about depression and post partum depression and psychosis? Have you talked to women who have experienced very unwanted pregnancies and considered suicide before birth?
I know how abortions are done. Many of them are done just like miscarriages except induce while others are done surgically but, it's not as bad as it may sound. It's a simple removal of the contents of the uterus and usually the 'baby' is so tiny you can barely distingquish it. While the features may be determined at conception it's all biological really since there are so few cells. Whether or not a fetus can feel pain is very much debatable and I'm suprised that would be in your text book. You're probably in America in one of those anti abortion states or at a religious school. That would explain the text book problem.

God gave us free will. It is a God given right and I will not take it away from anyone.
While you can try to convince someone not to do it--it is their right to choose.
Let God--the person who is intended to judge--do all the judging and you can keep to yourself. "Judge not, lest ye be judged."
I have never had an abortion. I would never have an abortion. I have never encouraged an abortion. BUT I have been there to support a women who had an abortion. I don't think it's right but it's a person's right to choose.
Science has yet to prove when life begins. Is it at life or conception--that's the debate. Until we have an answer from science I don't believe anyone can make an educated decision on this one.
I have studied (college courses) abortion in detail. I took a whole semester of and "abortion" course. It was very interesting. It not only dealt with the procedure but also the thoughts of people who have abortions and the effects on their whole family. If you are interested I really hope you find a course like it.
I'm pro-choice and a Christian.

Wow, how amazing that you were presented with this information in school. Can you imagine if we could just honestly share that info with all young people long before they even think about sex, like when they are 14 and 15 years old. If you're old enough to watch scary movies, have your period, and swoon over movies stars- you are old enough to be presented with the truth about how horrible abortions are for both women and babies. They leave scars on the woman (at least anyone with a soul) for the rest of their lives. As long as everyone is going to shout about it being a right to be able to choose whether another human will be allowed to continue living (hmmm, sure sound like murder to me) but in order to make that choise you should be required to understand what that choice implicates. I think there would be far less abortions if we stopped sugar coating the whole industry. I applaud your maturity and your school district's curriculum!

""At 3 weeks they can feel pain even! ":"
Why do you outright lie? You have to have a brain to feel, which an embryo does not have. It's been scientifically proven a fetus cannot feel pain until around 24 weeks gestation.
Yes abortion is right for those having one. It's far safer to have an abortion for the female than to carry the fetus to term. Childbirth is very risky and can end the females life. What right do you have to force another to risk their life? None so MYOB.

Abortion is a right that every woman has....I had one done 9 years ago and have felt horrible about it since, to say that women should go to jail for murder is a little harsh for someone who has obviously never been put in that situation. I have been punished with my guilt for 9 years and now I am 8 months pregnant and am so excited to have a child.
I do no think that it is that women think it is RIGHT, but it is a choice that is made at the time.....

There are many things we do as humans ever day that we desensitize ourselves to, abortion is one of them. I think one of the reasons so many people are able to go through with an abortion is because they are told that at that point their baby is just a "clump of cells." People also do it because they are in a desperate situation and just don't want to go through with a pregnany. I used to be heavily pro-choice until I went for my first sonogram at 6 weeks and saw my baby's heartbeat, in no way shape or form was is just a "clump of cells." I was so angry at hearing that term. I still believe in a woman's right to choose, and I don't think that most women think that an abortion is a careless, harmless procedure, they will just go to any length to control what's happening in their life. It's better to know and come to terms with what you're doing.

when i was in college in biology class they had some aborted fetuses in jars in there. And they do look like tiny babies. I can understand in certain circumstances why a woman may want an abortion especially if she had been raped or if her life was in danger but just because she can't raise it there are so many people out there that are trying to have children and can't they need to adopt these unwanted ones.

Any other day this topic would be of interest, but it seems to be the only thing anyone wants to discuss today. Abortions are left solely up to those facing that decision, do I agree with them? No way, but due to circumstances I couldnt' change I've had one. I would make the same decision over and over again because I know what was going on at that time. Everyone is different and everyone chooses that route for a different reason, it's awful, but sometimes there are no alternatives.

I verry much aggree with you . I had a simmallar experience . I had always been taught that abortion is wrong but when I read what the docters actually do and saw pictures of the fetus I was Enraged . I thought how can any one do this . Did you Know the there has been 40,000,000 abortions in the U.S alone .
Tell people about what abortion is really like . Most people dont know what it actually is . Tell them not to become part of the massacre.

i can totally relate, i had one of those moments about a week ago when a friend showed put up an anti-abort thingy on her myspace. its heart-breaking to think that a person could do that to a baby. its monterous. they only thing that i can think is maybe they aren't well informed, or their parents make them. i don't think it should be legal, its murder. if its rape or what not, fine use your excuse but i couldn't hurt a child because of something that was done to me. if you don't want it, give it away. if your mature enough to have sex, your mature enough to have a baby. *not applied to rape as i understand its not your choice just think about the life your throwing away literally, they suck them out and throw them in plastic bags, trash.* very sad. also, there are herbal ways to sterilize yourself. temp or perm.
oh also, my uncle's wife had so many abortions that when she got pregnant this last time the baby was born 4 months premee, her uterus was unable to support the growing fetus.
