The sharpness of chromatographic peak indicates the quality of the column. Actual equation for column efficiency is N = 16(tR/Wb)^2; N - is the number of theoretical plates, tR - retention time, and Wb - peak width at given peak height.

Peaks really. See is there is any tailing. This indicates that your stationary phase is wearing out.
