I just listened to a book on tape that I enjoyed called "Hostage" by Robert Crais. It is about a former SWAT agent who becomes a small town police chief. He has rely on his old talents when a group of men come into town, commit a crime, and take a family hostage.

James Patterson has two series of books that would probably work for you. The 1st being the women's murder club series. It starts with 1st to die, and continues through the 5th horseman. I've read all 5 books and hope he writes more in that series. The other is his alex cross series. That series is much longer. The way he writes makes it easy to whizz through his books pretty quickly. Each chapter is only a few pages long and you end up reading half the book in one sitting b/c you sit there telling yourself ok just one more chapter. Another author you may like is Stephen White, I've read a few of his books and liked them alot. You can try Erica Spindler, she writes those types of books. Also my other favorite series of books is the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. If you wanna see if they interest you trying looking them up on amazon. If you don't wanna spend a ton of bucks buying books try checking out my absolute favorite website of all time... paperbackswap.com it's the best resource for trading used books. Even if you don't have any to trade you can always buy credits for about $3 a piece and then list them for trade once you read them and get your credit back.

You would probably like what are called "Techno Thrillers" such as Michael Chrichton's Jurassic Park or the andromeda strain.
Mistery books?? I liked Agatha Christie's "And then where none"

to avoid unecessary answers, you should really give a sample of authors you already like in the genre and of books you've read, you'll get a better answer that way.
