If by tiny beads you mean glass beads, those are poured like that, with a hole in them. They are not drilled into. I would not recommend drilling into a gem you have if you have not done it before. You may be able to find a pro who can do it for you. You may also want to think about not putting a hole in them at all, like using thin wire (almost like thread) to make a holder for the gem, which can be strung.

Depends on the stone. Softer stones will be easier to drill through, but more likely to break... The owner of a local rock shop told me once that you could do it with a drill press (to make sure the hole was straight and the bit was secure), and to secure the stone with plasticine or some such.

You may want to get cabochon settings, if you're using what I think you're using. You can glue or clamp them into the setting, which normally has a pre-made pendant bail. Much easier than trying to drill the stone...

They make really small drill bits but drilling a hole that small straight can be hard to do plus you could break the bit easily.

dremel makes these small drill bits for drilling perf board...really small set I have and it works well.

other than that, youll need to buy or rent a drill press because doing this with a hand drill is next to impossable

forget drilling, buy some craft wire (silver, gold) and glue little loops for the necklace to slide through

You would first have to grip it steady enough with something to drill into it.
