yo, i heard that sperm whales release loads of their sperm into the ocean while having sex....only a certain small amount of the whale sperm goes into his partner...

is this true? and how many gallons of sperm is released in the ocean during sex intercourse??

You heard wrong. Sperm whales were named after the milky-white substance spermaceti found in its head and originally mistaken for sperm. They release no more sperm than any other whale their size and certainly only a small percentage of it gets into the ocean.

Sperm whales have that name because the oil they used to harvest is milky white and resembles semen. I have yet to study whale intercourse in depth, but I don't believe a whale would waste a bunch of sperm for any reason for the simple fact that it takes energy to produce and nature doesn't like to waste things.

Whales, like all other mammals, reproduce by internal fertilization and all males have a penis. Mating may be preceded by the male gliding beneath the female and then upturning for belly to belly contact. Sometimes the positions may be reversed, while belly contact in a vertical position has also been observed. The size of the penis in large whales vary between 1 and
3 meters.

There is also photo evidence of homosexual whales.
