It was *never* necessary. The time change is just a convenience (or an inconvenience) so that people would not feel like they are getting up too early/late. A simple change of schedue could have done the same.

If people would get up at 4 am and go to bed at 8 pm, then midnight would be the middle of the night. But people insist on getting up at 7 am and going to bed at 11 pm. Changing the time forces the schedule closer to what the sun is doing during the summertime.

Yes, because you are saving electricity energy. In winter you get up at 7:00 PM, it is still dark. Go to work and still dark. So that it is extra cost. The main reason is that. But unfortunately the country where i live right now (Georgia) does not change time to winter schedule. All the countries in same parallel changes but Georgia does not. Unfortunately this country has energy problems, especially after conflict with Russia.

It wasn't invented because mankind needed extra sunlight to survive, but for a more economic purpose.

Daylight Savings Time was implenented by Benjamin Franklin. He proposed to have people to set their clocks forward in the summer to have less 'waking' hours in which candles were burned and other lighting apparati.

Being a proverbial tightwad, he felt you can save money by buying less candles and lantern oil to light homes. And since most people had earlier bedtimes in the colonial days, there were less night hours experienced. This idea actually worked as those industrial settlers found that they made fewer trips to the candler in those months. It became popular and survives to this day.

More than necessary, I would say that it is a convention of most countries to save energy. It is now an accepted rule and it is not feasible that any government stops it in the next years.

I live in Saskatchewan, Canada and we have the honour of being the only smart province to not change time. We stay on Daylight Saving time all year. LOVE IT!!!

I wish it would just stay the same all year. I just start getting to it one way when it changes again.

It never was necessary. The only reason it was instilled is for military purposes and the new reason given is so that kids don't have to wait for their school bus in the morning in the dark.
