The SAT is more widely accepted because it is more stadardized. It is more challegening than the ACT and used more in determining the ability of the student. Although I'm only 13, I took the SAT and got 1270, somthing like that, and got 31 on the ACT. The SAT was about 3 times as tough for me as the SAT, mainly because of those dang essay questions.
But just study and remember, you can take the SAT or ACT as many times as you want and you'll probably imporve each time

I took the ACT, but it doesn't really matter these days, as both are accepted at almost all Universities. The SAT is the most widely taken across the U.S. these days. The only big difference in the exam is that Science is included in the ACT and not in the SAT.

Here's a rule of thumb:
If you like math, you're likelly to do better on the ACT. Otherwise, you're likely to do better on the SAT. Having taught both SAT and ACT, however, I have to say that the ACT is a LOT more user-friendly. Before committing yourself to the SATs, consider taking a free practice test at your local Kaplan center. That way, you'll know what to expect on test day and make an informed decision about investing hours of your life into another standardized exam.

ACT looked, and still seems easier to me, but my results didn't prove that. I recommend you take them both because it will give you more versatility. The colleges/universities will only get the result you send them. If you take it multiple times try seeing what the exam room will be like cause that may also have an effect on how well you concentrate during the test. I cannot however comment on the new SAT since I took it in 2004.

I would "rather" no one have to take them. They are not real good indicators of actual performance in college. However, since you must, you can take both, because some schools only look at the SAT others only at the ACT.

Neither one. Well, I took the SAT and it was pretty hard. I think more college accept SAT scores but not all of them accept ACT scores for admission. Good luck.

ACT by far. The ACT has questions that you actually learn in school...the SAT is pretty much just trying to trick you. I personally would take both and see what happens...

You can take them both. In my experience, I took the ACT's. -Although a lot of collages accept it, many ask for your SAT scores also.
