Far as I know you can and they will pay for it. My sister in law is 24 and medicaid paiod for her tubal ligation. Thank you by the way for choosing to have your tubes tied instead of bringing an unwanted pregnancy upon yourself. I had one child and knew thats all I could take care of and I had my tubes tied at age 24. And medicaid paid for it then and that was 11yrs ago. I just had the hulka clips put on my tubes so i can have them unclipped i want to do a reversal

Since you say it is the doctor that is requiring this permission and not enforced by law I would let the public know that this particular doctor requires permission from a husband for a tubal ligation. Put the pressure on him and maybe he will change his ways. The whole permission thing is outdated and ridiculous. What happens with this doctor for unmarried women, does he require a permission slip from a boyfriend, doubtful. This doctor is discriminating against you and other women because of marital status. He should be stopped. I would change doctors and report him to the disciplinary board.

that is correct. most doctors no matter what insurance (or no insurance) you have will consent to a tubal ligation under 25 unless there is a serious medical condition that would jeopardize the health of the mother. personally i think the age should be 30.

medicaide isn't the problem it's your age as tubal ligation is still permeant and half of the reversals don't work, and because you are young they feel you might change your mind later on they usually prefer you to have children first and you run the normal risks for major surgergy and anesthetic.

Yes my friend just had her 3rd c section she is 20 and the last pregnancy she delivered twins so she is 20 yrs old with 4 babies. they would rather pay for two more I guess also I think its a health risk if she would get pregnant again.

I don't know if that is true or not.
Sounds 'reasonable' (to an insurance company or government agency) though as that is not the only (nor the most cost efficient) means of birth control.

Why would someone under 25 want to do such a horrid thing to themselves??! If our government were forcing such a procedure on it's citizens everyone would be up in arms about it.

not sure, I had a hard time finding some one who will do it when I had private insurance its funny they hop and scream and fuss bomb and fight telling women not to make babies if you are going to abort it and get your tubes tied but then try getting the procedure done and if you arent 45 with 12 kids no one wants to do it
