I know walking doesn't sound very interesting, but it is when you consider some of the great walks in this world.

I took a week-long walk in Andalusia this summer, over mountains through ancient towns along the beaches - fantastic.

If you don't have the money to take off, think of all the sponsored walks you can do, that way one of your hobbies can be raising money for charities.

You could look on the walking you will do meanwhile as training.

It depends on what you're interested in: Interacting with others or not? Outdoors or in? Physically demanding or relaxing? Heights or firm ground? Pricey or economical?

Football, basketball, baseball, tennis, dodge-ball, cycling, swimming, dancing (salsa, tango, jive etc), bowling, ice-skating/roller-blading, working out/becoming more muscular (very attractive to women);

Evening classes (from languages to pottery to massage techniques to motor mechanics), long distance studying (a mature student on a degree course?), book club, attending or hosting or crewing at events/seminars;

Fishing, environmental clubs, knitting (very trendy!);

Parachuting; bungee-jumping, abseiling, pot-holing; snorkeling, offer your services to charities.

The list is endless.

Think back to what you used to enjoy when you were younger : What did you want to be when you grew up?
Are you still interested in doing it?
What hobbies did you have or still have which brings pleasure? Expand on it.
What activity/ies (legal and moral!) bring(s) a smile to your face when you picture yourself doing it?
Where and how do you see yourself in a year's time?
What do you need to do now in order to achieve it?

Make a plan then take action!

building and racing 1/10th scale electric radio controlled model racing cars.

the models themselves can start from a basic kit to a top of the range racing kit as little as £50 to more expensive ones which can go up too £600+,and the amount of hop-ups for these cars is huge,along with the huge range of bodyshells you can custom paint

there are rally cars, trucks,buggies,and touring cars which is the most popular

to get you started with a basic kit for a little over a £100,you can get the kit,radio control unit which includes servos and a receiver,battery and battery charger. everything else would be in the kit, maybe except for a screw driver set.

look on the brca web site to get more information the brca or (British radio car association) is the governing body for the sport it's kinda like the FIA for model car racing,or even visit your local hobby shop for information on the cars and clubs where you can race it,there you can meet new friends and race against others on you own level of experience

Photography - you don't need an expensive camera (I'm using an £80 one but you can get far cheaper digitals than that). Once the investment's done (with a memory card) you can just take yourself out and snap anything and everything you see.

My mate's doing a "photo a day for a year" project as a sort of visual diary.

Beats knitting anyway. :)

I think you should try photography. Its incredibly cheap and a great time killer. You could take pictures of things around your house and you don t need a fancy camera the one on your phone would work just fine
