If you're speaking of a persimmon, I have a couple of these trees behind my house in Tennessee; lots of plants native to China and other parts of Asia seem to thrive here in the South, especially, to everyone's chagrin---Kudzu. But persimmons are small and round yellow-orange fruits, kind of astringent tasting and have four large seeds. I've never heard of an English equivalent for a persimmon.

Persimmon is a fruit, it's a light yellow-orange to dark red-orange colour, varying from 2-8 cm in diameter, and may be spherical, acorn or pumpkin shaped depending on the species.
