Before you decide which test to take, research the colleges you would like to attend. Many colleges prefer one test over the other, but will accept either test as a measurement of your academic potential. If the colleges you are debating on attending have no preference, or some colleges accept either, take both. I would also suggest taking an SAT and ACT test preparation course. You can find home study courses in most major bookstores, and on Amazon.com.

Good luck and happy testing!

I also think that you should take the ACT and the SAT because I firmly believe that by taking the ACT, it would help you get better grades with the SAT. The only thing is that most colleges just look at your SAT scores.

It doesn't matter for the major. It depends on where you are located (and consequently, where you are applying for school.) The SAT is used mainly on the east and west coast, while the ACT is used mainly in the south and midwest, though both are taken everywhere. Some colleges want both, some want either, and others want a specific one. Contact the admissions office in the colleges you are applying to, to find out which test score they want. My advice? Take both; some students will score significantly higher on one test, and are glad they can choose which score to go off of.
