...is it a bit cheeky of me, or am I justified in asking them to give me some money towards replacing the shattered inner tube?

It was over-hanging a cycle path, so I was exactly where I should be. The thorn was smaller enough for me not to see it, but big enough to shatter the inner tube (so a puncture repair kit wouldn't be much good anyway).
For info, I didn't ask for money, but this has happened twice now and I want some advice about if it happens a third time. New inner tubes are almost £9.00 a throw.

It is unlikely that they will help with the cost, but they are responsible for their plants that over-grow a public footpath / cycle path. Contact your local council highways Office they can put an enforcement notice on them to cut it back as it is obstructing the footpath and can be a danger to the public. If they don't comply, the council will do it themselves and charge them for the work.

besides the obtrusive thought of no longer driving for the time of the thorn section I even have some mixed recommendations. First is to make particular the tire are pumped to the max rigidity, this allows the least rolling resistance and has the least footprint on the floor. Then get the puncture resistant strips and positioned those in, and that i might recommend you upload one previous tube in the tire split so the tube is divided on the spoke component of the tube and helps conceal the tube to tire section. the only exchange to all that and risking greater residences is to experience in a worn down direction and to hold your bike for the time of the thorn section. yet another element you are able to desire to do is to flow returned by that section after college or on Saturday and decrease out and bag up the thorny branches and that way you and each physique else that is going for the time of the section is very happy.

You should firstly cut back the overhanging bush which is your right, if the bush overhangs into your property.
Then go to your local cycle repair shop and ask them to fill your inner tube with green gunk to stop punctures. it's a green gel that when a hole appears it stops the tyre from deflating.
Demanding money won't get you anywhere i'm affraid.
Good luck

Are you serious!
I cannot believe you're trying to claim for the cost of an inner-tube because of thorns off a tree that belongs to some-one!
Has this world gone that crazy!(?)

I do not know the whole situation but i do not think they have to pay i could be wrong though. I would tell the ppl to trim it or you will. And i would just ask if they would help with the cost tell them how many times it happened. And if they are decent they will do what they should do. Trim and Help with cost.

If you own the property, your ownership goes above in an imaginary line from the perimeter. So if it was hanging over property your own, that would trespass, and you could recover.

Lets get ONE thing straight here! under UK law you the land owner ARE responsible for damage OR injury caused by a tree/bush that overhangs a public right of way!!!!!
