Dreams are just extensions of our awake conscience mind, we have a sleep cycle, and when we reach "rem" sleep, this is when we are in the deepest sleep, and our subconscious mind takes over,we take our conscience mind into our sleep, this is useful so that we can continue to be alert even in our sub-conscience state.
This is why a person will wake up if someone is watching them, how soldiers stay alert on the battle fields, how new moms can hear their infant cry, when normally they are "heavy sleepers".
So usually our dreams are about things that are going on in our in our everyday life.
It's not just what you are dreaming that's important, its how you feel that will answer the reason for this dream.
Dreams are dramatized extensions of what is going in your life.
Where you feeling desperation like you had to get to some place, what was the reason you had to get there?
Sometimes even the tiniest thing in our lifes can trigger a dream, most times its not significant really. But the feeling in the dream is, this can be just a chronic fear a person has, like fear of being late.

Trust vs the field of all possiblities are in conflict. You will travel, (figuratively), to far away lands dependent on others to guide you which you are uncomfortable with, because you are addicted to certainty, but you lean on invisible walls in your life and have fallen hard many times. Learn to be open to trusting others sense of direction. They use a good compass. Your talents are elsewhere. As your trust grows, so will their trust grow in your talents.
Communication is also an issue. The unspoken word carries the most potent message. Again, don't expect others to reach your quality of communication, it's an invisible wall.
You are a race car driver on a public freeway. The others drivers have no idea about ettiquette on the freeway. Slower cars stay to the right, passing on the left.
Expect the dunce in the left lane going the speed limit with 30 cars backed up behind. Find a way around. He's not a team player.

Being lost in a dream and being without outside help from anyone can mean lots of things.
Look at your waking life - are you feeling lost in terms of what to do about something? Maybe your dream is telling you that the answers you're looking for are within yourself and not someone else (maybe you need to rely on yourself more?).
I suggest a dream dictionary - they're wicked useful!
Good luck!

My best guess from previous readings on dreams is that it means that you are having trouble dealing with an issue in your life that only you can solve and nobody else.Another thing you can look into to find the answer is a book by Sylvia Brown on dreams,I'm sure you can find it at any library.

To dream that you are lost, suggests that you have lost your direction in life or that you have lost sight of your goals. You may be feeling worried and insecure about the path you are taking in life. Alternatively, you may be trying to adjust and get accustomed to a new situation in which the rules and conditions are ever changing.

It means it is time to redefine where you are in life. You are the only one you can count on to know your dreams in life.
