i am an editor on my high school newspaper. There are three girls that have pretty much had it out for me since I've been on staff. Recently we had a huge blow out in a meeting. we usually have like a week of layout and they only came to two days of layout, leaving my advisor asking me to pick up the slack. then when i confronted them they turned it around on me. Saying that they would be happy if i was gone. However there are other people on our editing staff who dislike them, but are too shy to say something. Now every time i write an article they wont print it on their pages. But the articles are really good, even the writers from the oregonian think so. My editor in chief is really non confrontational and wont say anything to get my articles printed. what should i do?

Do you not have an advisor? I would talk to him/her or whomever your adult sponsor is. It's their job to prevent this kind of thing and run a responsible newsroom. If they can't help you, a principal might.

Newspaper politics can be awful especially in high school. But stand up for yourself! Don't let high school pettiness stand in the way of quality journalism!

Send your artiicle to a small weekly in your hometown. When and if the first one get published bring in the article and show it to them. I'm sure they'll be eating their hearts out. Be prepared, however, for failure, life is competitive.
