I would advise saving it for a while and getting a Direct X 10 card as these cards are going to out preform any graphics cards of current times. if you must buy one now then i would go for the ATI Radeon X1900XTX or the nvidia 7900GTX/7950GX2 both of these cards are currently the top cards from these companies. but Nvidia is to replace theres next month with the 8800GTS and the 8800GTX and in january or febuary ATI is to replace theres with the X2900XTX or the X2800XTX. all these cards should be around £250 - £300. try looking at Dabs.com or Ebuyer.com as these are the cheapest places i know on the net for the UK. Also if you plan on buying a top range card check your power supply can hardly them. i would recommend a power supply over 650W for the direct X 10 cards and about 500W for the current ones. if you want a full comparison of the cards click on this link http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/graphics/charts.html and for a power supply idea click this link http://www.extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine
Hope this helps

Nvidea versus ATI; is comparable with VHS versus Betamax or ATARI St versus AMIGA.

While ATI can do very pretty graphics, NVIDEA are built for speed i.e frame rates.

I have done much research on this as I am considering investing in a new one myself soon. I quite fancied the NVIDEA 7950GTX as its the fastest card around at the moment.

Some people are saying to wait till Direct X10 comes out as these will be able to cope with the new coding for DIRECT X. Although, funnily enough this was also done when DIRECT X 9 came out and there was no real difference with graphic performanceif you had a pre DIRECT X 9 card.

I would make sure that anything you get will run with VISTA.

Ebay can be useful price wise and would be where I would go if unable to make a computer fair.

Your choice at the end of the day though mate.

I agree with daz2712 Save your money till Dx10 cards come out. If you spend 300 on one now you will be wasting your money.

Make sure you got vista too to get the most out the card.

Don't even waste that kind of money on a graphics card just yet.

The next-gen DirectX10 cards will be out before long and you will want to upgrade again when these hit the shops.
