fainting- like in the victorian era? im guessing it was those tight garments

Sure- those fainting couches are pretty. Back in the victorian era, they had fainting couches at the top of every staircase. The corsets were so tight, they didn't allow the woman to properly breathe, so after she climbed a staircase, her body was basically suffocating. Hence the fainting couch at the top.
My mind is a wasteland of useless info. :)
