My DVD drive reads and plays DVD films but cannot read or use Data-DVDs, CD-ROMs or audio-CDs. It used to. Bizarrely the USB DVD burner on my PC has the same problem. Both are visible and seem correct in the Device Manager and test out ok for data transfer when Nero does a drive check.

Okay try uninstalling the software for you drives and then reinstalling them. Some files just get lost especially if you dont do regular Defrags and disk cleanups.

what type of dvds is the data on? Some drives cant read dvd-r discs but dvd+r is fine. Also, maybe they are multisession discs. If this is the case, some drives wont be able to read them. If you made the discs yourself, maybe you thought you put the data on there, but only used drag and drop to ready the disc, but never actually burnt the discs. You maynot have fully installed the drives. And maybe you should recover your OS. It may need to be reinstalled.

I have this problem from time to time. Many times i resolve this with a system restoration maybe because something is messing with the drivers at some point.
Formating and reinstalling everything will definitely solve the problem

I know this is an obvious suggestion but, you may just need to reload your drivers from disk..
