many could be argued as the best.. Lincoln refused to allow the nation to split.. Franklin D. Roosevelt gets credit many times for ending the great depression, pulled us threw WW II and is the only president to be elected to a third term (he gets my vote) John F. Kennedy was by far the most popular with the public... there are many others but there are a few.

Dick Chaney. He got George W. to take the heat for his decisions, while he relaxed over his defibrillator and pretended to be the Vice President.

George Washington, he was the first leader of this country. Everything that happens is a part of his legacy, it takes a lot of courage to be the first leader of a new country.

Thomas Jefferson. He basically formed our country, and if would had it his way slavery would have been abolished in 1776 but the southern colonies never would have sided with the rebels if he did that, so, it took till 1864

Hopefully a future one because we need a good leader. However, if you are looking at the past, I would say Clinton was very good, then Truman both because they took the country and improved it after a long down hill spiral. I disagree with what Clinton did to the military and what Truman did to get us involved with Korea, but they also did their jobs well.

My vote goes to Reagan. Ended 1970's stagflation, ended the cold war, and cut taxes. Perhaps his most amazing contribution was the re-unification of the American people.....shame that it's disintegrating again into hatred and name-calling.
