I have tried to be open minded regarding rap music but I just can't. 70's music was about growing up and taking chances, 80's music as love and lust, 90's music was 80's music with a more sexual overtone but this rap stuff is noise and degrading not only to women but the human race. It promotes and idolizes gang life and the beating of women not to mention the drugs, booze and sex! I do not think it is healthy music and get very upset when I catch my kids listening to it.

I dont know what type of rap music you have heard in the past, but not all of it is bitches and bling. If you actually knew anything about rap music you would know there are plenty of rappers out here with positve messages. Common, Talib Kwele, Dead Prez, Ludacris even has some really good songs if you take the time and listen to them. Also in case you didnt know a lot of rap music is based a lot on the beats not the hook. I dont personally care for country music but I dont think all country artists have no talent. You people are very closed minded.

Rap music is for clubs and egomaniacs. Notice that most new rap songs have old songs made into them. Like Phil Collins - in the air tonight. How about Jay-Z's "Hard Knock Life" from Annie? These so called 'artists' are 'sooo good' that they use REAL music to make their own. Just add a base line and a snare with some lyrics about how much $ they have, how big their label is and POOF! = Rap music.

Not necessarily horrible, but really, really hard to see any musical talent at work. Generally all rap seems to feature is a previously-recorded popular song that is "sampled" into a new rap song, and quasi-obscene lyrics are added with a loud bass beat. I guess I just don't get it.
But then again, I listen to "A-Ha" so what do I know... :)

I liked rap in the early 90's, but after a few short years things had changed.
I agree that you need o talent to be a rapper, just the ability to say things really fast. and to steal stuff from real music nowadays.
so i am ROCK all the way (the older stuff ofcourse!!!)

I know I can't stand rappers that curse alot in their songs.. it get's on my nerves and they have no point of cursing. My teacher says the reason why they curse alot is because they have low vocabulary.... I heard this rapper the other day.. and he sounded so whack I just got mad and said people who think they can rap need to stop because maybe the 3rd generation will be like they don't want to rap or they do want to rap... who knows???

I actually had a bumper sticker that says;
"If I wanted to listen to the CRAP coming out of sterio, I'd be sitting in your car!"
I don't like rap at all. I think it's a waste of SOME real talent

yep, for the most part. but there actually some artists that actually say something. we can't always generalize a genre by the idiots who become popular because the fans that listen and think they are cool are a bunch of 8-16 year olds who have careers flipping burger ahead of them. (perhaps that was mean, i'm sorry if i offended anyone).
