Because the media doesn't want a soldier to appear as a hero to anyone.
They want us to lay down our arms and do EXACTLY what their liberal owners tell us to do, think, eat, etc.

Because the Media wants to paint a a negative picture of the war. They are really upset because of the ending of policy to embed the press corps with troops deployed in combat zones overseas. It isn't because of the liberals or the conservatives. The media feels jilted, and is acting out of vindictiveness. Unfortunately, the Media picks our politicians for us, since most people are a mindless herd, not caring to look at platforms, issues, or values. They want someone else to make the hard choices.

Because if the American public knew about the heroism, sacrifice and wonderful things our military is doing over there, they might just support the war...and the liberal media that is manipulating everything to ensure a democratic party takeover in Washington can't bring themselves to tell the truth.

Simply, heroism is when you do something outstanding, whereas mass-bombing opponents from 20,000 feet is hardly heroic.
Perhaps you think the Americans behaviour in Abu Ghraid was heroic.
In WW2 the two sides were balanced both technologically and in manpower, people fought large scale battles face-to-face. Modern warfare is fought at distance by computer controlled missiles, so the opportunity from individual heroism is not available, except to the opposition, who are out-gunned, outnumbered and morally justified.

doing the same thing they did during Viet Nam. Report nothing but bad news and predictions of failure so that the people eventually start to believe their crap and we lose the will to win. After Vietnam they know it works, the communist NVN are still happy with them for all the morale support.

Because the media is over run by liberals who hate all things American.
Admitting to acts of heroism would be contrary to their implied cause.
But, they support the troops.
