If it is you, it is self confidence. If it is the person you work with you find annoying, it is egotistic.

people who are self-confident will look you in the eyes when speaking to you, are comfortable speaking in front of groups, and stuff like that.. egotistic people like bragging about themselves and showing off.. sometimes the line between these things is gray though because a self-confident person can get carried away with something like telling a story and it comes across as just showing off.. they don't always go together though because sometimes people will feel a need to show off because they lack self-confidence..

I do not know that I can tell you the line between them, but I can tell you the difference.
Great self-confidence will be the person that knows what they can do, what they are capable of and not afraid to push the limits of their abilities. They will not brag about it, they will just never shy away from it.
Egotistic attitude and arrogance will be people with similar abilities, but they will take every chance they can to tell you about it and how wonderful they are. Always having to be recognized as the best, most valuable or front of the line...

It's an extremely thin line and often gets interchanged. Egotistic is more "Me! Me! Me! I did this and I'm great at this and I'm awesome" Self confidence is more about accepting challenges, being positive, standing up for yourself, and sometimes taking charge.

You become ego-centric when your decisions keep other people from meeting their needs i.e. when you speak poorly about someone or speak poorly too someone you have diminished them.
It takes a strong self-confident individual to make room for others. It is the self-centered egotist that wants the spotlight for themselves.
