I was on a Delta flight between LA and Salt Lake city (I was thousands of miles from home and flying alone - I'm British) when the aircraft I was on was involved in a near miss collision. I have never been so frightened in all my life, more so when the captain announced that over the tannoy about 30 mins after it occurred. People were all panicking and passing out as the plane went into a virtual nose dive to fly under the aircraft that was flying on the same flight course as us only crossing our path. When we all finally got to Salt Lake we were met by officials from the airline and asked if we needed medical attention due to the stress. Have you been in a dangerous situation yourself?

Yes, I found myself in the middle of a bank robbery. Two masked men came in and shot a teller and asked all of us to empty our pockets. The police showed up only minutes later and we were held up for approx 4 hours before 1 robber was taken in to custody and the other shot to death. One robber told me to stand up and I said no, he kicked me in the face, I needed to get 15 stitches on my face. The bank paid all my medical bills and I was grateful. But I still have nightmares. This happened 4 years ago and ever since that situation I now have a permit to carry a gun which I will use. This poor old lady went to the bathroom on herself she was so scared (and her fear still runs through my veins). I feel bad for anybody threatening someone in my presence, they will be downed and downed quickly with no hesitation.

Retired military- Air crew. Been in several. Military flying is hours and hours of boredom with occasional moments of sheer freaking terror.

Stress? You folks have no idea what real stress is. What good does panicking or passing out do? It's only the few moments when you wonder if you are going to be alive one minute from now you need to be concerned with. Do you have any control over the situation? If you don't, hang on, this might get really exciting.

After it's over ride the adrenalin rush down and say thanks lord you let me stay here a little longer. Are you really that afraid of dying? If you are why?

Yes, I was driving along a divided highway during one of the cooler summer days. I had the driver's side window down enjoying the really unseasonal cool day and fresh air. A tractor pulling two of the large mowers was working on the median which had a cover of grass that was about 10-12 inches tall. As I passed by the mowing equipment which was by now dressing the curb side, I heard a loud pop and my passenger side window shattered into a million pieces. I was so startled that I had to stop and let my heart catch up with my body. Realizing that the mower had thrown a projectile (who knows what) through my open window, by my nose (I estimate a maximum of 2 inches away), and into my passenger window, I felt very faint. I could have easily been hit by the projectile and badly hurt or killed. I have a phobia about driving by operating mowers now.

Yes , my son ( who was 3 ) accidentally put running car in gear , while I was opening the garage door . The car moved and I thought it was just rolling so put my hand out to stop it , my sister was in font seat and I yelled for her to step on brake . She hit the foot feed instead and pushed me , I shoved the door up and was pushed and ran in the garage in front of the car . I thought I was going through the back wall when she hit the brakes and stopped the car , with me up against the back wall . My son flew into the dash hit his head and had a bruise . This happened in 1963 .

Well one time my friend and I were held up at knife point. Unfortunately he got stabbed, fortunately I didn't. It was damn scary to say the least. That was probably one of the most dangerous situation I've ever been in.

More than I could possibly count. When I got to the point that I ceased to have any significant reaction to those events, I knew it was time to start thinking about retirement.
