My own beliefs are that dragons can offer protection when called upon to do so. Some dragons offer guidance on spiritual paths, healing and protect. Others watch over different aspects of the Earth. Dragons exist on a different dimensional level but are still considered to be part of the Earth.

Maybe in the mmorpg everquest or world of war craft they can, but in real life no...dragons are like you said, mythological...however all myths seem to have an element of truth in them...I believe this could be from our cave days when we encountered "snakes"...theres alot of similarities in the artistic and descriptive sense of the word "dragon" to snakes...especially in china where temperate climates give birth to creatures such as the "king cobra" if I'm not geographically incorrect (check to confirm)...so...in the oddest sense of the truth...if this is the case...and one had say...a "guard" snake like one might posess a "watch" dog...then the reality is "yes"...dragons do protect us...they say truth is stranger than fiction...and in this case it is.

Although dragons (or dragon-like creatures) occur commonly in legends around the world, different cultures have perceived them differently. Chinese dragons (Simplified Chinese: 龙, Traditional Chinese: 龍; pinyin: lóng), and Eastern dragons generally, are usually seen as benevolent, whereas European dragons are usually malevolent (there are of course exceptions to these rules). Malevolent dragons also occur in Persian mythology (see Azhi Dahaka) and other cultures.

Dragons are often held to have major spiritual significance in various religions and cultures around the world. In many Eastern and Native American cultures dragons were, and in some cultures still are, revered as representative of the primal forces of nature and the universe. They are associated with wisdom—often said to be wiser than humans—and longevity. They are commonly said to possess some form of magic or other supernormal power, and are often associated with wells, rain, and rivers. In some cultures, they are said to be capable of human speech.

Yes. They protect treasures, from literal ones like gold, to figurative ones, like our creativity. They bring good fortune. But if this is for a paper, you'd better use the wikipedia or a real encyclopedia, because different cultures have different takes, and I bet that's what your teacher is trying to get you to find out about.

Dragon:The inner light or higher self and can be mastered with development of the Will, meditation, dream-walking, and balancing Twilight. The Dragon within is our true self, our creative fire, our power, and our potential to be super-human.

I would say yes they do. Dragons live high above the earth and they hold up the moon and stars and keep big things like meteors from falling on us and killing mankind
