It depends on what has happened since the computer problem.
If the hard drive literally crashed, it'd be physically ruined. You're not likely to recover anything.

If you had taken it to a computer store to have them fix your system they should have backed up the data first.

If you have already run a restore to get your system to boot - you most likely have lost it and it would require special software to recover it. (this can get quite expensive too - so make sure you let them know how much you're willing to spend)

If you haven't done a thing yet to fix the computer - then you have a good chance of getting the document with a bootable disk. If your system doesn't allow for a bootable disk then you need to take the hard drive to someone else PC.

If you have any more questions about this feel free to email me.

A technician can help you retrieve that document, by taking the hard drive of your computer and attaching it to a seperate computer, and then copying the file there. Alternatively you can get a friend to do the same.
****** Please check with your Computer`s Manufacturer, before calling a technician, because it can invalidate your computer`s warranty if that person is not authorised by the manufacturer to repair you computer *********

It is crashed but you can't find it? Meaning, you are still able to log in and can't find it, or you can't log in at all? If you can still log in and can't find it, then somehow it is gone. If you can't log in anymore, then my suggestion is to remove the hard drive and place it in a USB external hd enclosure. Plug it into another computer and see if you can find your file. Good luck.

If you can't remember the documents name you can do a search looking for files that contain specific words this may help you find it...\
