To do the necessary repair on the drain, you must first determine what caused the clogging. Never use an "acid" based drain opener without proper instruction. Serious injury could result! If you have dispose of potato peeling or fresh greens, especially cabbage or collards, then the problem is much more serious and may need someone to disassemble the drain pipes and cleared them manually, since those items do not disintegrate or break down easily. To successfully open the drain, you will need to rent a hand-held electric auger, remove the p-trap, and enter the drain pipe at the wall---first, check to see if a "clean-out" is available at the sink location---this would eliminate removing the p-trap if a clean-out is available. Second, (always wear good leather work gloves for this job)start the end of the auger in the drain and apply pressure to the auger cable as you engage the switch. This should help the auger to feed itself down the drain and through the stoppage. God bless for a successful waste removal job!

It depends on how much work you can do on your own. If you are comfortable taking apart the pipes, then there is more you can do.

First take the advice of the person who said start with a drain unclogger. The foam kind works pretty well. Straight lye works great, but you have to be really careful with it, it can eat your pipes.

If that does not work, then the fun begins. You will need a "snake". That is a long coiled length of metal. It will be available at most hardware stores. You can try it put it in the non-disposal side of the sink. Put it down the drain with twisting motion. You may have to pull it up from time to time to de-gunk it. Most likely you will have to take off the elbow shaped pipe under the sink and snake from there. If you can't do that, then call a handyman or plummer.

All you have to do is:1.Remove the elbow on your drain.
2.Get a rodder from the store.
3.Gently slide the rodder snake in as you push down on the rodder pump switch.
4.Ease the snake back out in reverse using an old rag to clean off the snake.
5.Put the elbow back on.
6.Run scalding hot water down the drain, and turn on the garbage disposal at the same time, and run scalding hot water into it as well. Good luck!

Look for a reset button under the garbage disposal, then turn on the disposal with caution.

Try some kind of drain cleaner (liquid plumber) or go to a hardware store and by a *snake*! All else fails call a handyman, lot cheaper than a plumber!

remove the trap...most likely its cloged with grease or whatever...if its white PVC pipe u wont need a wrench...just screw it off at drain (under sink) and clean..if its metal u may need to remove it with channel locks) and replace with PVC..at ur local hardware just ask for a P trap...if u make a diagram or ur drain they can better serve you...good luck...its not that hard..!!!
