your baby will come when it is ready, but do alot of walking. It is good for you and can induce labor naturally.
I would not suggest using the oils. They are a laxative and unless you like having the runs, then don't do it. Also not totally safe for the baby.

nature has a funny way of letting you know what's right, but millions of years of evolution have pretty much said that baby knows when it wants to come out. if he's coming early - there's probably a reason - usually none you want to consider. both of mine were premies, and trust me, I'd die for one that liked to stay inside momma for once.
if he's happy and everything is peachy - let it be. All these home remedies and "ideas" have never really been tested. why risk it and question later if something you took or did caused problems? nowadays, they keep finding everything under the sun that causes birth abnormalities - foods, cosmetics, pesticides.
i know that you're close to the finish line, and it's looking really tempting, but what's 1 more week after 39? your doctor will tell you if medically you need to be induced, but first timers typically tend to come later anyway.
if you do try anything - keep to the non-invasives, such as walking and squatting. downward pressure on your cervix may encourge things to happen, but as always, do everything in moderation. you're not going to enjoy that 48 hours of labor if you just finished running a marathon as well.

Nothing really works. Just wait it out. I was told walking, taking a bit of castor oil, having sex, eating spicy food, or any number of other things would bring about labor. NONE of these things work. I had my son at 42 weeks and a day.
Your baby will come when he or she is ready, and not a moment before. I know it's difficult to wait, but that's all you can do. Get all the sleep you can!

i don't really believe any of those "myths" about inducing labor because some people it works for and some it doesn't. i think that the ones it does work for were really about to go into labor anyhow whether they did anything to try and induce or not. it would be nice if those things really did work but unfortunately it's just like those diet pills they advertise on t.v. ...........the majority of the time, they do not work. your baby will come when it is good and ready. i am a little over 36 weeks and i've walked, had sex, rode a 4 wheeler through water, took a hot bath, etc.........and guess what, i'm still pregnant. so i've decided that it's up to my baby to come when he is ready. now walking is still good for you even if it doesn't help induce labor.

I'm 38 weeks pregnant and my mother keeps telling me to walk every day. So far it hasn't worked for me, but it's healthy for you no matter what.
A thing about the nipple stimulation: DO NOT TRY IT!! It has been proven to induce labor, but it's not healthy for you or your baby. It will make you have much more intense, painful contractions and it may cause the baby stress. Just keep waiting, you'll have your baby with you soon!

Castor oil works and works well... it says on the bottle to not take it to induce labor but it worked well for me and my mother and combined we have had 6 children. Does not take long either. Good luck I know what it is like to want it to hurry up.

castor oil and lots of SEX (not to be funny).
semen will soften the cervix and promote contractions.
castor oil has always been an induction tool in the old days. works well, but only when baby is ready

Metamucil... But I was unable to use the potty and my doctor told me to drink Metamucil and that night...water broke and a 9lb baby was born. But do not do anything unless you ask your doctor first. Congratulations on you new bundle of Joy...
