But suppose sound were to travel just a little slower than light (so that we didn't have to discard physics).
What would the main difference be? Every minor sound would be lethal. The compression wave from the tiniest whisper would hit you like being hit by an extremely large asteroid.
Not only would a whisper flatten you it would be like being touched by a solar flare ... just much hotter.
When you really get down to it, all the people who said it just breaks too many laws are right. I give up.

No, when you consider that easy is an electromagnetic wave it travels at a speed of three X 10^8 m/s. The sound is basically a propagation of vibration by way of textile interior the medium. So the fee of sound relies upon on loads of aspects like density of the medium, the pliancy of the medium etc.

This would imply that compression waves in air travelled at the speed of light, which would mean that air particles could be accellerated to the speed of light. This is a direct violation of special relativity. It would imply that sound waves carried infinite energy, which is clearly non-physical. I suppose that we could speculate that collisions between the air molecules would then lead to atomic fusion and possibly higher energy subatomic interactions as well. Essentially, there is no reasonably answer to this question because it requires discarding the underlying physics of the universe.

You would both see and hear a person speak at the same time. It might be hard to hear someone if their voice traveled at the speed of light. It could never really happen though.

I have a very different answer to your question, than what most people would give!
To find out what would happen if sound was the same speed as light, you would have to first go to origin of light
GOD
The bible says
GENESIS 1:3
And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
So the speed of light is the same speed as sound!

Well, you're sort of takikng an "Alternate Universe" look at things in that respect. It's rather hard (for me anyhoo!) to speculate, as it does change my perception of Physics to think of sound travelling that fast...
So in essence, alot of things. The medium would be ridiculasly dense to allow it to travel......I can't, sorry..

Marching bands would sound good, instead of horrible (since the sound from the farther parts of the band is out of synch with the sounds from the nearer parts of the band).
A sound would interfere with its own echo.
