One year when money was tight I found some of my old work clothes that I could do without. I tore some holes in them and used potting soil to rub a dirty look to them. Then I used makeup that I had laying around the house to "paint" my face into a zombie's face. Black eyeliner and red lipsick worked good to create cuts and tears in flesh. It took me a couple of tries with the makeup to get what I wanted. You can get cheap makeup at the Dollar General or any time of dollar store in your area. The night I went out, I had some really nice compliments on my costume and it didn't cost me a dime, lol.

dress up like a tourist... get a lai, wear an ugly floral shirt, a big camera around your neck, have maps hanging out of your pockets and maybe a suitcase of bag with patches or stickers/bumper stickers on it from different locations around the country or world.
