Sacagawea was a Shoshone Indian woman, most famous as the principal guide on the Lewis and Clark expedition. Much of her life is a mystery, but she is highly regarded by Indians and white Americans for her contribution to human knowledge and understanding.

Sacagawea was the Shoshone Indian who assisted the historic Lewis and Clark expedition. Between 1804-1806, while still a teenager, she guided the adventurers from the Northern Great Plains to the Pacific Ocean and back. Her husband, Toussaint Charbonneau, and their son who was born during the trip, Jean Baptiste, also accompanied the group.

Without Sacagawea's navigational, diplomatic, and translating skills, the famous Lewis and Clark expedition would have perished. For one, she helped Lewis and Clark obtain the horses they needed to continue their journey.

She is immortalized in poems, statues, and the one dollar metal golden coin the US issued in her memory in 2000.

Sacagawea was the Native American woman who accompanied Lewis and Clark across the country to the Pacific Northwest. She's probably the only reason they weren't murdered by Native American tribes that didn't trust white people. If it weren't for her, westward expansion might not have happend for several more decades (which probably would have been a good thing, but whatever).

She was the young Shoshone Indian girl who guided Lewis and Clark on the expedition. She was married to a French tapper named Toussaint Charbonneau and she had a son named Jean Baptiste whom they nicknamed Pomp. Her knowledge of the wilderness and native languages helped make the expedition a success. Her granddaughter married a distant cousin of mine.
