Do you mean the password of the inbuilt Administrator Login Account or the password for the Admin account you created ?
If its the latter then you can reset the passwd by doing the followinf.
Restart your computer, and just before the windows XP screen is about to come up, keeping tapping the F8 key on the top row of the keyboard. you will come to a screen called Boot Option, Use the arrow keys to select "Safe Mode" and press enter, then you will see another Admin Account, click on that and then cancel the system restore box.
then go to Start - Control Panel - User Accounts, click on ur account and click remover password and then click ok.
Voila the password will be removed.

**** However If the password for the INBUILT ADMIN LOGIN is lost then all you can do is to format the drive and reinstall Windows, after backing up all of your data

If your personal account is an "admin' (in the admin group with admin rights) then YOU can change the password back. (Start - Control Panel, Administrative Tools - Computer Management. Go to Local Users and Groups, and edit the Administrator Acount password.

However, if you dont' have these rights, then thereIS an option. NO YOU DON'T NEED TO FORMAT THE DRIVE.

There is a utility available out there which allows you to edit the Administrator password from a floppy disk. Information about it can be found here:
http://www.petri.co.il/forgot_administrator_password.htm

This utility runs on a floppy disk using Linux but is quite easy to use. I work for the Supreme Court and we've used this on many XP machines to reset the password. (Note, do not use it to reset the password on any account other than the built in Administrator account as it can cause problems.)

When you reboot the machine, it will run through the scandisk, and file checking before it boots. This is normal.

Simple if it is your computer only, very tuff on a network. On your computer, do a quick format and redo the OS. It is possible someone saw you put on your password and changed it. There are some hacking software that you could also use to change the password, but I will not tell that secret over the net.

I think you get softwares that crack the password. Although, it may technically take months depending on the complexity of the password.
Try John the ripper.
