I think the whole mental thing makes it hurt worse, just don't get yourself worked up over it. I made myself freak out first, and then got it done and I was like wow, I was a baby. The thing that hurts the worst is the clamps when they hold your tongue to put the needle through. It will be swollen for about a week. You more than likely won't eat too much if you do, just jello, warm soup, popsicles, ice chips, pudding, etc. Make sure you take ibuprofen or if you have access to pain pills such as vicodin or something take those. Make sure you use mouthwash like that new crest one without alcohol after you eat or smoke anything. Be careful brushing your tongue as well. Also make sure to change the barbell as soon as you can to one with plastic balls so you don't hurt your teeth with the stainless steel ones, or you will end up chipping your teeth.
Good luck...and it's worth it!

Yep. When they pierce it, it kinda feels like you're biting your tongue and that really doesn't hurt cuz it's only for a quick second but later on and in the following days, it's gonna hurt and be swollen.. make sure you have pain pills, mouth wash and ice, popsicles, slurpees....

Heck yeah, it hurts! But, it hurts AFTER and not so much during. I spoke with a lisp for about three days and lived on slushees. But, it was totally worth it. I got mine done seven years ago and haven't had any trouble since. Just make sure to get the right size for you and use plastic balls so you won't hurt your teeth.

It does NOT hurt as much as you think it will. The piercer does it so quick, you will barely feel pain. The only time it will probably 'hurt' is when it's healing.

Indeed it does! There is also swelling for a couple days..you cant eat any solid foods for a couple days..it will be to hard too! And make sure you rinse with antiseptic every time you drink-eat-or smoke....Within a few days you will be as good as new.....Good Luck!

it depends on where you get it done--go to the best place you can find--word of mouth and rep are good indicators--yes it does hurt--and after you have to watch what you eat and make sure your piercing dosent get infected----they will give you instructions--on how to keep it sterile

it depends on how high your pain threshhold is. if you can stand more pain than others, then it will only hurt a little. if your a sucker for pain, and even the smallest needle puts you to tears, i wouldnt reccomend it. your choice. they are really fun after you have them in!

no it does not hurt, but you eat soup for the next week or so afterwards. and it sucks to suck through a straw.
