I am assuming you want to take, say, 2 yards and figure out what that would be as 2 yards cubed (not the same as 2 cubic yards). 2 yards cubed is 2x2x2=8 cubic yards.
For similar conversion of square feet to cubic feet, you would take the square root of the square feet measurement to get feet and then do the same thing. eg sqrt(4 square feet) = 2 ft. 2x2x2=8 cubic feet.

You can't convert these units.
yards is a unit of length, but cubic yards is a unit of volume, and square feet is a unit of area.
These units are incompatible with one another, so there is no way to convert them. You can convert yards to feet, or cubic yards to cubic feet, for example.

Sure. Just for the record, since I'm sure others will tell you this as well, you're not "converting" cubic yards to square feet; you are just seeing how much area can be covered to a depth of 1 inch by a certain amount of material. Technicalities aside, convert 1 cubic yard to cubic inches since your units for the coverage area are in inches. 1 cu yd = 36 in x 36 in x 36 in = 46656 cu in Now, you want to know how much area you can cover if you spread it at different depths. The amount of area is given by the formula A = volume of material / depth So if depth is 1 in, A = 46656 cu in / 1 in = 46656 sq in 2 in... A = 46656 cu in / 2 in = 23328 sq in 5 in... A = 46656 cu in / 5 in = 9331.2 sq in 6 in... A = 46656 cu in / 6 in = 7776 sq in If you want to convert to square feet, divide by the number of square inches in 1 square foot. 1 sq ft = 12 in x 12 in = 144 sq in, so in square feet, your areas for 1, 2, 5, and 6 are... 1. 324 sq ft 2. 162 sq ft 3. 64.8 sq ft 4. 54 sq ft
