It is only because we, the electorate, allow it to be so. We don't HAVE to vote for somebody just because we know their name or because they have the most ads on TV. It's our responsibility as citizens in a democracy to educate ourselves about our government and our leaders and hold them accountable on election day. Unfortunately, that doesn't happen. Never has, never will. Most people are willfully ignorant. The majority don't vote at all, and a majority of those that do probably don't even really understand who they're voting for.

Yes. In fact US is the least democratic democracy. They use the first past the post voting system which means they have single party governments. So say Republican's get 40% of vote, Democrat's get 35% and other parties/independents get 25% that means Republicans have all the power, make all the decisions without the consent of 65% of the electorate.

In the Republic of Ireland and other W European countries they have Single Transferable Vote and Proportional Representation voting system. This means they have multi-party governments and therefore the governments are more legitimate with consent of a much larger portion of the electorate than single party systems like US and UK.

And yes US is all about money and whoever can afford to win best campaign will win. This means candidates will seek sponsorships from various companies/individuals and therefore protect private companies interests at expense of the public.

US democracy is screwed up in my opinion and you get Bush as a result.

actually... yes... sort of. first of all, America isn't a true democracy, it's a democratic republic... votes are counted on a sliding average scale based on area populations designed to kind of even the scales between states like Rhode Island and California... supposed to make for a "more equal voice" in Congress. Does it work... I dunno. Now, beyond that, you have to look at what drives this country... industry and capitolism. Fame make give you more political clout by giving you a means to be heard, but ultimately, politics is driven by big industry and the banks that fund them. Did notoriety get Ronnie, George W, Arnie and Clint elected?... no. It got them noticed. It was their finacial backing that got them elected.

Uhhh...yeah! I mean how can you sell something if your logo or slogan sucks. Of course you need fame there is so many people that go and vote without even knowing the agenda of anyone or anything. If you really want the most perfect example of fame being a factor take a look at Schzaazeneger (if thats how you spell it)

Yes that's the way of it but remember political prominence is not always political power. Political power comes with a much higher price tag than any of those people could afford.

america is run by oil barons, arms manufacfurers, paid for by jewish dollar take all three out of the equasion and america would be a more stable fairer place to live with truly equal rights when the constitution was written there was no global market in oil, arms, and there was little or no jewish influence in what happens in america somewhere along the road the script was re-written.

Unfortunately it is now, every law that has been passed by the repuglican congress with the exception of funding stem cell research, has been targeted for the very rich. Nothing for the middle class which is falling behind and they have actually taken away from the poor. Not very Christian of them now is it?
