Your initial statement is pure speculation...you have no idea how well the players would have performed as a team...just look at the current crop of England - many individuals could be rated as world class...but England have seriously underachieved for several years.

The Scots, Irish and Welsh wouldn't allow it. They would lose their national Football Associations and so lose their footballing identity - why do you think they are against a GB side in the Olympics. In the past each might have supplied perhaps a player to add to the England team who would be the basis of the side, but not now.

I think it would be good to play football as Great Britain. I am Welsh and it really annoys me when the NATIONAL news always goes on about the England team (applies to any sport) but gives very little mention of the other British teams - Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

I think it'd be great to have England, Wales, N. Ireland, and Scotland to all team up to form one national team. Just think with all the great players from those 4 kingdoms...The UK could have one awesome team competing and I think it would be a better team than just Scotland, or just England. It'd be awesome to see, and I think they would be very good...
Although, I kind of like having the 4 separate teams..It makes for good rivalry that has existed in the UK for hundreds of years.

the thing is, if we were to enter as great britain, whether the players were english, scottish, welsh or northern irish would be irrelevant. those borders wouldn't exist; everyone would be british. personally, i'm all for it. it's just some people can't imagine great britain as a football team. they can't seem to realise that although the ethnicity's of english, scottish, welsh and northern irish would still exist, it wouldn't matter, we'd all be british

i would love to see that, but I'm part English part Scots and part Irish so i would, but there's loads of people who would take a fit just at the thought. oh well, maybe they'll drag themselves into the 21st century one day.
