I am a Muslim and I know that it doesn't say in the Quran that women have to. It says cover your head.

In light of the security issue recently they should know better and not do it for their own safety especially since so many people disagree with it.

Also I can understand the security issue that people are scared what might be under the clothes(but seriously how many women do you know that hide guns under their clothes?).

The teacher whow as suspended was silly, how could little children and deaf people understand her when I couldn't?

Ideally people should be able to wear what they like but only because it doesn't say it in the Quran and because of the security issue I would say they shouldn't.

I've got muslim friends and none of them is covering their face, nor their hair. They told me that their families could force them to do it so. Also they told me that if they are out after 8pm that means (for the family and other muslim people) that they are slappers or easy girls. I think big part of all that covering is actually a discrimination towards women, or otherwise they must be really religious.

I don't understand why when we go to a muslim country we respect the law and dresscode but it doesn't work the other way round.
Afterall, they should respect the culture of this country. They can't force their own religious ways to be accepted in a non muslim country. If they are not happy with the way they are treated, they are free to go back home.
Oh well, who would give them free houses and benefits every week there...

Why not. It protects their skin against UV rays. Many have beautiful soft complexion.
Furthermore, If some people are going to get bent out of shape about women wearing a veil, then others should have the right to get bent out of shape because some faces that should be covered aren't. Really. Who wants to see Straw's face or Blair's, or Rumsfeld's, for example. We could all be spared the sight of faces that only a mother could love. Cherie and Laura would also do well to keep their faces covered.

yes they should. we have known for many many years that muslim women cover their faces so WHY keep bringing this subject up. a women must cover her head when out of the house especially where theres men around its not compulsory to cover the whole face its depends on the women how she feels.
THERE IS NOTHING WRONG IN ISLAM AND NOTHING WRONG WITH MUSLIMS SO LEAVE THEM ALONE.

Muslim women in some Islamic countries are forced to keep their faces uncovered as it's considered as being extremist if they do. Indeed they'll even forceably uncover her face if she refuses to do so.

So I guess what we've got to consider is, if some Islamic countries are saying no to it then why should the UK be slammed for considering it?

I believe freedom to cover up is more important than the freedom to take off your clothes and go to a nudity comunity!

Why is it called freedom when you take off your clothes only?
o you think all women think that freedom is to wear indecent clothes?

I just don't think it's an obligation for Muslim women to cover their faces.

I think a man can wear a face cover and a robe and carry an automatic weapon and several grenades and liberals will defend him. How do you know it is a woman in there?

I saw a (what I thought amusing) article in the Sun newsaper yesterday.

A guy said a muslim woman knocked his door and he spoke to her through the letterbox. It was eye to eye and thats what the muslim community argue, you don't need to see their face you can talk eye t eye.

I'm a very open-minded person, but it makes me uncomfortable when I can't see someone's face.

That's not to say I don't think they should be allowed to do it day to day. I don't think my discomforts should be made law.

But in a sitation where crash helmets or balaclavas aren't allowed, why should they be allowed to cover their faces?
