I've said it before and I'll say it again, "What is the goal? Is the goal legislated morality or is it to kill less babies?" Unfortunately, you can't have both. I would assume that the ultimate goal would be to have less babies aborted, so I'm giving the benefit of the doubt.
Assuming the goal is to have less abortions, then the pro-lifers are going about it back @sswords. The best thing they could do would be to stop wasting resources with all of this silly non-sense about trying to legislate abortions out of existence.
Now that we've got this giagantic bucket of resources, what should we do to achieve our utlimate goal? The answer is simple, we start focusing on the alternative: Adoption. As it stands, adoption just really isn't a real alternative. We need to first off change the rules to be monumentaly more in favor of the adopting parents. None of this ridiculousness of comming back years later saying you changed your mind and want your baby back. Dad can't do it either. It's over, you can visit and all, but your PARENTAL RIGHTS are DONE. Streamlining the process is also highly needed. Just make it easier for Christ's sake.
Next, increase significantly the number of potential parents that can adopt by getting over the homophobia and allowing gay parents to adopt. Here's your choice: Gay parents or dead pile of goo, which do you prefer? I will concede this, if there's a tie between a hetero couple and homo couple, we can err in favor of the heteros. Remember, that's just a concession to help this get past, you know c-o-m-p-r-i-m-i-s-e.
Next, marketing. Instead of hanging out at abortion clinics yelling "baby killer" and other such idiocies, why not use your group's resources to connect mothers that don't want their child to parents that do? Handing out cards with simple, non-inflamitory language and contact info. "There's another choice...." something like that.
It's my belief that if these simple efforts were made, we'd see the number of abortions plummet, and seriously, isn't that ultimate goal here?
Making something illegal DOES NOT make it go AWAY.

I have never looked at it that way. The idea behind Pro-Life is that the babies being aborted are real human beings that are being killed. The aren't just a blob of tissue that can be discarded. By making abortion legal you are equating it to another form of murder and therefore saying that unborn babies are human beings with rights. A woman in some states can have an abortion at 6 months but if another person murders a pregnant woman at 6 months, he can be charged with double homicide. How does that work?

That's a great point. People seem to think that laws solve problems. How long has murder been illegal, and drugs? Guess what, people still do both of these things. Sometimes we need to focus on the practical issues surrounding a subject instead of just coming at it emotionally. I'm not saying that murder shouldn't be illegal, but let's not fool ourselves into thinking that outlawing it solved the problem. Educating people is probably a more powerful deterent.

young people have the viewpoint where it was always legal...they don't know anybody or remember when women were butchered for the sake of lawmakers. They don't realize that abortion was ALWAYS legal, even when the constitution was written. They don't understand that restrictions placed on abortion before Roe, were for the sake of the woman's health, not for morality purposes. They are lucky enough to live in a free society, where they can openly have this discussion, without having to lose their best friend to a back alley abortion.

Do you have any numbers to support the 'women dying by the buzillions in alleyways' myth?
First, I doubt it will be made illegal nationwide. Why? because it wasn't a federal government issue until Roe v. Wade, when *presto magico* the Supreme Court magically found a new inherent right in the Constitution.
The decision to allow or disallow abortion would then pass back to the states, who legislated on the legality of abortion prior to the federal usurpation of power.

Because they are stupid. They don't realise that woman have been having abortions for centuries - before they ever became "legal" and will continue to have them, legal or not
As for the amoeba who said that the "murderers" who have abortions should go to jail, yeah I can REALLY see the poilce sending a terrified 13 year old rape victim to jail for having an abortion out of fear and desperation.
MORON!
These people just can't handle the fact that they can't control other people's lives and bodies.

Yes, they will still happen, but then we can send people to jail. The place all murderers belong.
Average Joe - Why don't we make everything legal?
