There wasn't a wildcard.

Either go with a bye for the top in each league, or 4 divisions of 4 teams each. Win your division, go to the show, nice and simple.

This isn't a shot at a '06 or any other "Wild Card" team. It's a shot at baseball for stressing TV revenue over compitition.

I never liked the wildcard from day one, and probably will never like it. All of the points for the wildcard can also be points for 4 team divisions. I also dislike interleague play, the DH, the new All-Star WS link. Granted this year, and last the team that had the better record had home field, but if Hoffman didn't blow the save wouldn't Tiger fans be upset that they didn't have the home field advantage with the better record? Shouldn't Cardinal fans be unhappy that they won their division, the tigers didn't but get the home field. Again a wildcard cunundrum.

Re-read it all Robert. I made a case for both the wild card angle and the record angle using the teams in the WS this year. Cardinal fans aren't making a stink because they will see their team win it all at home.

I only have one suggestion for a rules change than would make baseball more exciting. Take the gloves away from the outfielders. That way, every routine fly ball would be an adventure.

The wild card has done much more good than bad for baseball.

Your argument that the Cardinals should be upset they don't have home-field advantage because they won their division and the Tigers didn't is absurd.

The Tigers had 12 more wins than the Cardinals. They were the best team in baseball for almost the entire season. The Cardinals struggled just to squeak into the playoffs.

That being said, it doesn't matter what your record is once you REACH the playoffs - it's anybody's game then. Whoever gets hot.

The game might be better served. Major League Baseball the organization would not. The wild car keeps more teams in the picture much longer, which keeps attendance up, viewer participation up, and it makes the season more exciting. I do not know why all of a sudden, everyone is whining about the wild card. Everyone says that it is a problem since a wild card team has made the world series four years in a row now. Well, that wouldn't be a problem if the division leaders would play better in the playoffs. How much more of an advantage do they need? Homefield and usually the ability to orient your pitching staff. People should quit redirecting the blame and quit bitching.

I don't think so. If alot of the first place races are over by say August 1, the wildcard races can make the rest of the season exciting for those teams & fans still in it.. Otherwise your watching meaningless games for 2 months until the playoffs start.

Also, as the Tigers proved, they were better then 2 division winners even though they were the wild card. The 04 Red Sox, 03 Marlins, and 02 Angels were all wild card winners.

Whatever they do, they need to start the playoffs sooner so they aren't still playing in November. It's silly to have playoff games in freezing, rainy weather.
