He's dying. Seriously. This is one of the things fish do before they go belly up.

This sounds like the result of over feeding, or poor water conditions. This can result in a swim bladder disorder. I'd clean the tank, and water. Adding something like melafix/betta might be in order. Also take a look at the below link, and then re-examnine your betta for other signs of illness.

PS- Despite the contentions of the baove poster O2 in the water is meaningless. A betta's gills don't work they get air from the surface of the water.

Sorry to say, that's what mine did before they died. The last one did that for months before he died. His color also faded. If he's been well taken care of, not fed too much, good water, etc. then it's probably just old age and just go pick out a new one after he passes over to the other side, and you've cleaned out his tank real well. Mine were all named Rainbow, Rainbow #2, and Rainbow #3. #1 and #3 each leved 3-4 years, but #2 only lived a month.

Sounds like he's starving for oxygen. Do a water change. Clean the bowl with no detergents. Put water in at same temperature and treat with a water conditioner (tetra). It contains a stress coating for the fish and takes out heavy metals. Leave water out over night to adjust ph before using.

I'm sorry, but it sounds as if he is ill and close to the end. All of my bettas have done this in the past before we lost them to the Great Fishbowl in the sky - best wishes.

Sounds maybe like swim bladder issues, or constipation. Try a pea, just one, like from frozen peas (not frozen anymore though).
