My 4 month old daughter has stopped napping during the day time. This just started at the beginning of this week. She doesn't want to play or eat...she has dry/clean diapers. She just cries, no matter what I do. I know she's tired but she refuses to sleep and then cries until she's gagging. I've tried the whole "let her cry it out" thing but she just screams even louder after so long. I know she's teething and I've given her everything...tylenol, teething tablets, orajel...you name and she's had it. I've played soothing music...tried reading to her, talking to her in soft soothing tones. She doesn't have a fever or anything. She used to take two good naps during the day...what happened?? I know babies are unpredictable and each one is different and reacts differently to each situation but how can I keep my sanity (and hair) and get her to sleep for more than 10 minutes. I don't want to call the doctor just yet if I don't have to, ya know?

Keep in mind I take her to work with me. Luckily it's just me and her at the office (until December/January). I have so much stuff here for her and usually she's able to be entertained (since I just answer phones and don't really do anything we just play and nap usually). Car rides don't work either...as soon as we get out of the car she's up and crying again! I feel so helpless and like I'm not doing a good job as a mommy cause I can't figure out what's wrong with my daughter.

What I meant by clean diapers is that yes, she's "regular" but she's crying even when she has a clean diaper. Also, I'm nursing...I only supplement with formula once in a while.

Go to the doctor immediately. This happened to me with my middle son and he had a stomach problem that needed medical attention. Something is not right for her to act like this. Good luck.

If you have tried everything then I would try giving her a nice warm bath and put some of Johnson and Johnson's bedtime bath in it that always works for my children you can pick up the baby bath at any store most stores carry it they even carry it in there brand anything with lavender and chamomile in it will work for your baby give that a shot. If that does not work then maybe you should call the doctor it maybe a ear infection or something like that you never know with babies. Let me know if that works.

If she doesn't want to eat and her diapers are dry and clean, I would be making an appointment at the doctors office. My friends little boy had the same problem at 3 months old, and they found out that his intestines were twisted somehow. He had to have major surgery to undo and repair everything. I am not saying it would be the same thing, but you can never be to cautious.

READ THIS! If in fact she is only teething, and cries due to the pain, buy some frozen waffles(and lots of em)and let her chew on them! They will give her incoming teeth a chance to cool down, and the little squares in the waffles act as druel cups!

Try laying down with her. She is just trying to show that she is a 'big girl' and doesn't need to take a nap. By showing her how important it is to rest you will set a good example and maybe you both can get a nap in!

I think you should take her to a doctor. you say her diapers are clean? thats not normal, or healthy. shes not eating or sleeping? the best thing to do is to have a doctor look at her, there could be something seriously wrong with her.

Have you taken her to the doctor? There could be something wrong with her. My youngest had colic. It was the worst 6 months of my life. It could be just that but have her check out.

You might want to have her ears checked. Screaming like that sometimes means that their ears hurt, especially when they lay flat on their backs. My second child had ear infections without fever a lot. Wouldn't hurt just to get them checked.

baby sounds almost colicky, I know babies usually develop colic earlier than 4 months, maybe it is the formula?
